The Sunset Shore

I'm wading deeper, deeper
getting colder, colder as if
the ice were sneaking up on me.

The splash of a beaver's tail
as if thunder crashing above
the Earth.

The horseflies buzzing in my
ear as if the whole black
universe were getting turned

inside out.
